High Possibility Classrooms and EALD teaching and learning: Stories from the field.

Dr Jane Hunter

Abstract This Seminar will provide a brief snapshot of the High Possibility Classrooms (HPC) research, which included contexts with significant numbers of EALD students in Australian schools. Teachers in these settings often used technology to more easily differentiate learning, to promote experimentation with grammar structures prior to responding to classroom discussions and to give students a sense of ownership over what they might focus on next in their language acquisition. Since the original study many NSW, Victorian and ACT schools now include the HPC framework in their strategic plans – this session will be an opportunity to hear about the research and its implications for ESL teachers in NSW public schools. —
